The first week of October 2006: Two men stole a fire hydrant in the Dallas area. The new models of fire hydrants have a recessed protection valve, which prevents the fire hydrant from spewing water when stuck by a vehicle. The police suggested that the fire hydrant will most likely be sold for scrap metal due to the high price of metals. I believe that there would be a better use for the fire hydrant. A smart thief would take the fire hydrant and mount the hydrant in the back yard. This is the smartest thing to do, because the thief could water the yard using the water from the fire hydrant, thus having the prettiest lawn on the street at the city's expense.
